Future Classic and The Operatives are proud to present Norwegian forest spirit animal – Cashmere Cat for his only Melbourne show. Touring nationally as part of the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, the forest cat has some special new numbers to play out. After a busy 2013 with the release of his debut EP “Mirror Maru” through Paris Social Club residents Pelican Fly Records, Cashmere Cat has followed up with his new single ‘With Me’ off his forthcoming Wedding Bells EP.
Skyrocketing in the blogosphere, “Mirror Maru” has been championed by the likes of Pitchfork and holding a number 1 spot in Hypem most popular charts for 3 days straight. His Wedding Bells EP represents the next stage in his development with striking attention to detail, whilst never loosing its hooks.
Cashmere Cat has caught a buzz this year amidst rumours of some big name production work alongside Rihanna hit maker Benny Blanco. Couple this with a sell out Vivid headline show at Sydney’s iconic Opera House in 2013 and his upcoming national tour on Future Classic’s stage at Laneway Festival, and it’s clear 2014 will be Cashmere’s year down under.
Not dependent on vocalists, Cashmere Cat’s own music is crammed full of smart melodic ideas and arrangement. These are songs built in equal parts from glittering RnB, touching on French electro, driven by the heavyweight bottom end of 00’s club Hip Hop – this is wide, cinematic and unabashedly bright new dance music. Rarely does a new artist emerge with such a unique voice across their work. Cashmere Cat is unconcerned with where he fits with DJs and is more influenced by Pop & Hip Hop then today’s stadium filling dance acts. But, his music is smarter for it.
Along with support so far from Kode 9, Éclair Fifi, Nguzunguzu, Hudson Mohawake, Rustie, Baauer, Diplo, Skrillez, A Trak, Brodinksi – we are honoured to being working Cashmere Cat to bring you his attempt at a perfect thing in an imperfect world.
