The Operatives are proud to present a line-up of world-class Locals Only! Espionage takes over the whole of Howler for one huge Easter Sunday on April 5th featuring a collection of 80’s indebted funk pop music for current-day dancers, hip-shaking hip-hop, rolling jazz basslines and undeniably soulful vocalists.
The main room hosts the weird and wonderful sounds of Eglo Records-signed Kirkis, whose live six-piece band swells to renegade and freewheeling jazz improvisation, swaying saxophone solos and soft percussion, conducted by his mad-as-a-hatter music. The unwaveringly groovy and Brazilian-inspired beats of Billy Hoyle working witchcraft over an MPC to create some of this town’s most intricate, soulful hip-hop, the lovely live loops of Lucianblomkamp whose debut and sophomore EPs garnered world-wide attention for the Melbourne scene with it’s unusual, tender take on outsider electronica. Collective and crowd favourites, the laid-back Silent Jay and his partner-in-crime Jace XL are set to deliver a set of blazed slow jams and multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer Queen Magic performs his rare synth-laden sorcery. Don’t sleep on HighTea’s blend of aromatic productions and warm, woozy vocals and the OG Operative Sean Deans showing off skills as a practiced selector, while Brendan Harwood’s weaves his hypnotising visuals throughout the night.
The front bar features the flavours of Jamie Now, JPS, Anomie, Jonny Faith, Amin Payne, Bee Ampersand and Jade Zoe for an over-flow of good times and tunes.
