Legendary pop culture and music icon, Grace Jones will make her highly anticipated return to Australian shores in February 2018. Renowned for her vivacious live show, Melbourne audiences can look forward to a vibrant and alluring performance, as the pioneering queen of pop descends onto the iconic Melbourne venue for a night to be remembered by all. It’s been two years since Jones’ last visit, headlining Sydney’s globally recognised Vivid Live Festival in 2015. Her performances were widely applauded and received rave reviews from Sydney Morning Herald saying “still as seductive and spectacular as ever”, The Guardian with “this hurricane of a performer is still gusty enough to delight her devotees and impress the uninitiated” and The Daily Review commenting, “it was clear the 67-year-old had lost nothing with age. In fact, it just adds layers to the subtle cultural critique that comes with a Grace Jones party”.

Most recently, Grace Jones was the focal point of a documentary from English filmmaker Sophie Fiennes, titled Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami. Premiering at Toronto’s International Film Festival last month, the documentary was filmed over 10 years and offers an unconventional look at the music icon, gaining entry to her most private spaces: her family in Jamaica, inside her studio with long time collaborators Sly and Robbie and of Paris with one-time image maker and lover, Jean-Paul Goude. Vulnerable and virtuous, Fiennes’ documentary allowed Grace Jones to take off the mask.

Grace Jones remains an inspiration for generations of artists to come, praised for her standout creative vision and reputation as one of the world’s most exciting musical acts. Launching a music career in 1980 with her own spin on New Wave and Post Disco, Jones was known for her timeless classics “Pull Up To My Bumper”, “My Jamaican Guy” & “Slave to the Rhythm” as well as reimagining popular songs that include Sting’s “Demolition Man”, Iggy Pop and David Bowie’s “Nightclubbing” and Roxy Music’s “Love is the Drug”. Alongside her own resplendent catalogue of original recordings, Jones played memorable characters in motion pictures such as “Conan the Barbarian” and “A View to a Kill”.

Don’t miss the spectacular return of one of music’s greatest luminaries, set to descend on Melbourne’s Palais Theatre in February.
