Melbourne Music Week and The Operatives present ESPIONAGE at The Residence. Featuring Jonwayne (USA) and Africa Hitech (UK) supports JPS, Silent Jay, Amin Payne. Visuals by Form.

Officially closing MMW for the past two years with Gaslamp Killer at KUBIK in 2011, and Floating Points and Alexander Nut at Where?House in 2012, The Operatives mean business. That’s why they’re back again this year, wrapping up the final Saturday night in serious style.
Oneof LA’s most forward-thinking producers – Jonwayne – will be laying it down against an incredible visual backdrop, live-painted by Japanese graffiti artist Jun Inoue.

An integral member of the LA beat scene’s second generation, Jonwayne’s sound bounces between brilliant production and irresistibly clever verse. Rising from the local underground music community as spoken word artists and rapper, Jonwayne was discovered when a tape of his raw, sticky, blunted beats found their way into Daddy Kev’s hands – resulting in his debut album Bowser (2011).

Melbourne Favourites Africa Hitech, Consisting of longtime electronic dance music fixtures Mark Pritchard (Harmonic 313, Global Communications, Jedi Knights) and Steve Spacek, Africa Hitech has enough combined music experience to explore almost every genre of pulsing bass-driven music to perfection. Individually, they are known for their contributions to the vast borderlands of hip hop and ambitious electronic music. They met over a decade ago, and began collaborating sporadically, before finally starting Africa Hitech. Since then, they’ve dipped their toes in everything from grime, UK funky and juke to field recordings and jazz.

With support from local Operatives heroes Amin Payne, Silent Jay and JPS, this is one party you won’t forget in a hurry.
