Night Slugs 15: Bok Bok and Girl Unit

Bok Bok and Girl Unit are set to make their return to Australia this June, commemorating 15 years of Night Slugs. The south London label emerged from Camberwell parties organized by Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990 during the post-dubstep era of the mid-2000s, and has since been at the forefront of shaping the sound club music, refusing to fixate on any individual sound or idea for too long.
Bok Bok, is a DJ, producer, and founder of the record label Night Slugs. He’s a prominent figure in the UK electronic music scene, having played a key role in the development of post-dubstep and grime during the mid-2000s.
Bok Bok’s music is known for its energetic and dynamic sound, drawing influences from various genres, including house, techno, and UK garage. He’s collaborated with many other artists including fellow Night Slugs co-founder L-Vis 1990 and minimalist club R&B artist Kelela.
Girl Unit, also known as Philip Gamble, is a DJ and producer hailing from London, England. He gained recognition for his work in the UK bass and future garage scene, releasing his debut single “IRL” in 2010 on the Night Slugs label. Girl Unit’s music is characterized by its heavy use of bass, synths, and futuristic soundscapes, drawing inspiration from genres like grime, R&B, and techno. He’s collaborated with a range of artists, including Kelela and Jessy Lanza, and has released critically acclaimed EPs like “Club Rez” and “Song Feel.”
