Nina Las Vegas is set to warm up clubs this winter with the third instalment of NLV Presents International Edition featuring (in alphabetical order): Djemba Djemba (USA) Monki (UK) and Mssingno (UK) headlining cities across Australia this August
The 2014 club shows sparked a series of sell-out nights, excited emoji texts, turnt midweek raving and – like Nina’s triple J radio show Mix Up Exclusives, – showcased a colourful and coveted array of international DJs. She now introduces the next wave of talent that music lovers and club-goers simply must not sleep on.
From festival bangers to future-pop to intelligent headphone music, Los Angeles based Djemba Djemba is known for his ever-evolving sound and twist on UK bass music and hip-hop. Djemba’s diverse productions have brought collaborations with big names such as Diplo, Beyoncé, Madonna and Miley Cyrus as well as underground champions Alison Wonderland, RL Grime, Obey City and DJ Hoodboi. From founding the formative LA club night The Melt to pioneering his releases around the globe this Mad Decent member and Team Supreme signee returns to Australia to blow up speakers with sounds usually found on SoundCloud, BBC Radio and Boiler Room.
Like Nina Las Vegas, London’s DJ Monki is an underground tastemaker that got her start championing electronic music talent on the airwaves before hitting festival and club stages around the world. In between presenting her regular spot on BBC’s Radio 1, Monki can be found as a resident at Annie Mac’s infamous touring club night AMP and working on her own digital imprint ZOO Music. Getting her start doing work experience on pirate radio stations, her mum’s love of Ibiza summer anthems and her uncles’ hip-hop cassette tapes. This born-selector is unmissable behind the decks with sets that include everything from piano house to hissing snares and skull-shattering bass.
At just fifteen minutes long, Mssingno’s debut and self-titled EP caused a sudden buzz – a shocking and unnameable hybrid of sparkling R&B and dark grime that somehow captured attention amongst the masses of sounds on the Internet. Not much was initially known about the Londoner, whose alias is tellingly a rare breed of Pokémon, that was suddenly drawing comparisons with underground legends Clams Casino and Evian Christ. Now, having shared the stage with the likes of Bjork and fellow Tri Angle Records producers, get to know Mssingno as he tours Australia for the very first time.
It’s little surprise that the cutting-edge NLV Presents International Edition spans the globe-trotting sounds of London’s darkest nightclubs to Los Angeles’ summer beach parties. Nina Las Vegas is currently on tour across America, playing at LA’s regular Do Over event and Hard Summer Festival Having just returned from her debut appearance in London and Scotland alongside friends from UK’s taste-making label Lucky Me!
