The Night Cat

Friday March 17th 2023

After a string of sell out summer shows ops:x returns with an exciting multi bill featuring Rochelle Jordan (USA), Ayy Den (UK), Murder He Wrote (Bruk Set) (UK), Nappy Nina (USA) and ops gang Jordan Dennis & Kaïra Cuvée.

Without experimentation, innovation is impossible. For Rochelle Jordan, this desire for sonic expansion has been long embedded into her fusion of futuristic and ancestrally soulful R&B. To listen to a ROJO song is to absorb a phosphorescent but subtle blend of sampledelic 90s pop, vintage UK house and garage, 31st century electronic bangers, airy late night ballads, and progressive hip-hop.

Blending elements of UK Garage, Dancehall, Soca and Bruk into his own off-kilter take on club music, Murder He Wrote’s playful productions and edits have been destroying clubs worldwide.

Ayy Den’s journey began in Canada. Growing up surrounded by a healthy mix of hip-hop, reggae, dancehall and soul music. These early influences combined with the fresh UK sounds of Funky, Garage, and Dubstep making their way across the ocean led to Ayy Den’s move from avid listener to radio host, DJ, and promoter – co-hosting intimate after-hours shows for a wide selection of international acts passing through British Columbia.

Nappy Nina is a lyricist with a smooth-sultry delivery that’s almost jazz-like, especially when coupled with some signature boom-bap production. And together they form Voltron, but better…….

We acknowledge that this event will be held on Wurundjeri land of the Kulin Nation and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respects to their Elders,, present and emerging.
