While Teeb’s particular brand of truly transportive music from his latest album ‘ESTARA’ has won him fans across the world, few have had a chance to see the curious and colourful collection of accompanying artworks from ‘ANTE VOS’. For the first time outside of the Los Angeles, 25 of the 400 vintage reworked records, painted and given new life by Mtendere Mandowa and collaborators will be on display – and for sale – this Wednesday at Loch and Key. While living around the corner from the infamous LA digging-spot Poobah Records, Teebs discovered their free records were the perfect canvas for his swirling imagery – and each record offered unconsidered samples for his own music that was later turned into a cassette tape of the tracks, that he as been working on for the past two years. The intricate paintings and drawings with their bold minimalism and collage-like offer a rare glimpse into the imaginative and creative world of Teebs – in all his art forms. For those that may have missed out on Friday, Teeb’s will be hitting the decks for a special performance to accompany the viewing of the work, alongside the indomitable selects of JPS and friends of The Operatives.
