The Operatives are partnering up with Novel once again to present one huge night and two rooms of music featuring some of the most trailblazing artists in the last decade: the now disco producing-mystic SKREAM and drum ‘n bass warrior since the 90’s A SIDES for a much more compelling couple than a candelit dinner can offer.

Support from AUDIXX, EDD FISHER, SEAN DEANS, JOHNNY HOOVES and NAM

At first Ollie Jones, better known as SKREAM specialised in one flavour: dubstep, raw and dark. His clipped, techy minimal style became a trademark sound and long before grime existed, it reflected dark murky streets and sinister nights, the sound of decaying London and its frustrated communities, stuck out in satellite towns and sink estates with nothing but a PC and freely available software to channel their frustration into. But unleashed from his computer SKREAM soon became a leading figure in the emerging scene, taking over everything from pirate radio stations, underground raves to suddenly BBC Radio1 shows and touring the globe. Now, after the scene he helped pioneer went ‘above-ground’ the producer has gone in a slightly different direction. Announcing on Twitter… “Haven’t been this excited to premier a record in a long long time…” he dropped ‘Rollarcoaster’ – the Londerner’s first disco single. Since then it’s been a milestone-heavy few months for SKREAM in his new direction, as well as getting behind the decks for a Prince and Aretha Franklin-sprinkled Boiler Room set, he’s dropped an intoxicating edit of Duke Dumont’s hit ‘Need U 100%’ and we can’t wait for him to come back to Melbourne to show off his new stylings.

A true verteran of the drum ‘n bass worlds A SIDES has released over 500 tracks. As prolific as that sounds, it’s his versatily, orginialty in both DJing and producing that have kept him in the game since the 1990’s. Releasing his latest album ‘Based Upon Bass’ early last year, it’s clear Jason Cambridge is showing no signs of slowing down. With artists the likes of Machinedrum, Rockwell and Om Unit intergrating the sound back into the ‘experimental’ scenes last year and A SIDE’s album showed them how it was done with his diverse and different blend of drum ‘n bass. Featuring heavyweight low frequencies, stripped-back and subtle samples, this is one productive producer we’re looking forward to seeing back in Australia!
