Swept into music writing by an appetite for words and a thirst for late nights and underground sounds, Rebecca Florence soon found herself unearthing Australia’s emerging electronic landscape for ACCLAIM Magazine, ViceMagazine’s Noisey and Thump, the based-out-of-London Dummy Magazine, literature journals, Undertow, In Brief and curating a guest mix series for The Bookery Cook.
From interviewing some of the world’s most exceptional musical figures – from Peanut Butter Wolf, Sigur Ros and Flying Lotus – to reviewing the likes of Low End Theory and Laneway Festival – to exploring local talent for her regular column ‘Ears Up’, she was soon writing about The Operatives and it’s collective more than anything else, not to mention finding herself every Espionage gig. Now, working alongside them as a publicist, behind-the-scenes writer and co-producer of the Soundcheck series, she promotes their gifted roster and ground breaking gigs with dedication – and usually from the centre of the dance floor.
