Today, Naarm/Melbourne based future-soul artist Emma Volard, announces her debut album Deity, set for release Friday 10 June, via The Operatives Records. Setting the bar high, Volard today delivers her alluring lead single, ‘My Desire’ with accompanying music video. Written between lockdowns over Zoom in Emma’s bedroom, and recorded at Sunderland Studios in Volard’s hometown of Phillip Island, Deity is an expression of self love, desire and hope.
Speaking on the creation of the single, Emma expands; ”My Desire’ is a track that epitomises the all-consuming effect of lust, and the obsessiveness that comes with it for some. ‘My Desire’ starts with a radio-esque crowd sample that pulses over the four-on-the-floor driving bass drum, crunchy hi-hats, and methodical bass accompany the celestial harmonies and unfolding textures, before switching into a menacing broken-beat and tencho-esque metallic back end. As an entity the track depicts the dark-side of love and the chaos that unfurls within unhealthy relationships’.
Entrenched in lavish harmonies, broken-beats and gut-wrenching lyricism, Emma Volard’s music has garnered attention from national and international tastemakers Dark and motorik, sinister and plush, ‘My Desire’, epitomises all-consuming lust and ache, and is the lead single of her debut album Deity, due for release June 10th 2022.
One of Naarm’s most enigmatic and staunchly authentic acts, Emma Volard launches her lead single ‘My Desire’, Thursday May 12th at The Night Cat. Her live show captures a raw and organic energy that has marked her as ‘one of Melbourne’s (dare I say… Australia’s?) tightest and most electrifying acts’, Trouble Juice. Do not miss the chance to see Emma Volard’s all-star band, Jordan Pereira, Jake Amy, Noah Hutchinson, Tom Edwards, Harry Leggatt and some special guests!
