Golden Plains 2014

“Wear sensible shoes. And be ready to hold one of them aloft.” Aunty Meredith warns of 2014’s Golden Plains Music Festival. The younger, and slightly better looking sister of this year’s Meredith, Golden Plains, takes a more electronic-leaning and The Operatives have executed it’s latest mission. Featuring a carefully crafted line-up, a small amount of fellow festival goers (‘no dickheads’), and the infamous natural amphitheatre, can you imagine a more perfect place to see FLYING LOTUS and JPS than a warm summer night drinking a pink flamingo?

There’s no commercial sponsors, no commercial signage on site, no market stalls, and nothing being marketed to you for the whole long weekend. It’s meant to be a haven. Camp wherever you like, bring almost everything and anything if you want – you can bring a couch (perhaps with matching armchairs and an occasional table, with a drawer) and plant it in the Amphitheatre for the weekend, and soak. it. all. up. For a long weekend.

Just incase you need anymore reason to buy the small allocation of tickets released today at 11am, here’s the entirely Espionage endorsed line-up:

FLYING LOTUS / LAYER 3 AUDIO/VISUAL PERFORMANCE

“I really try to dabble in things that are magical”, says FLYING LOTUS of his latest project, Layer 3. In case you missed it at last year’s LET THEM EAT CAKE Festival it is truly breath-taking. A cinematic experience, FlyLo plays between three projections of almost unfathomable visuals with the imagery synced up to what tracks he spins and he’s now on version 3.0 – “A Supernatural Dream Come True,” Aunty Meredith says of his appearance. “A luxury. A rarity. King Of The Beats, and now up in the Alltime Stakes – there’s a legit claim he is one of the greatest of all time; his music will be remembered. In the modern era, only an elite few match FlyLo’s total mastery, blending boom bap from the rap and cut up electronics, delivered with the spirit of jazz. Like no other.”

MARK PRITCHARD / WARP RECORDS

“Widely regarded as THE BEST in the world at future beats. In Guardian’s list of 100 Albums To Hear Before You Die. His prescient Reload project was an enormously influential slice of British techno, an experimental exploration of inner and outer space. His collaboration as Global Communication spawned the seminal ‘76:14’ which is considered one of the greatest ambient albums of all time. Remixes for Radiohead, Aphex Twin, Tom Middleton. Now releasing his first ever record under his own name on WARP Records. He’s been a lot of things, including Harmonic 313, Africa Hitech, Global Communication, Reload, Harmonic 33 but now he’s retiring all aliases to be Mark Pritchard. How cool is that? Penultimate set, last night of nights.”

JPS / THE OPERATIVES

We know there’s a lot to say about our Fearless Leader Jerry Poon – JPS – in fact, you can read his full very well written bio here. But all you need to know about his Golden Plains set is it will have you travelling from the Swiss Alps to Kensington and back with his diverse DJing skills that span hip hop, funk, soul, future beats, salsa, samba, to DnB, dancehall and reggae in less time than it will take you to hold a shoe aloft.

If you need any more convincing, GOLD PANDA will be raising the goosebumps,  the iconic hip-hop legends PUBLIC ENEMY will be Bringing The Noise to GP, soul singer CHARLES BRADLEY will make grown men cry, from New Zealand, the soulful sounds of FAT FREDDY’s DROP highly acclaimed live show will be shipping the dub out of Wellington for the long weekend, Sydney’s SEEKAE will be playing their bright blend of electronica, Melbourne local CHET FAKER will be crooning BURIAL into the sunset and the un-adjective-able HIATUS KAIYOTE will effortlessly prove why they’ve garnered the endorsement of no less than Prince, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu and Questlove with their undefinable future-jazz.

See you on the campsite – don’t forget to get your tickets HERE.
